November Outdoor Learning
We LOVE when Mouse comes to visit us in 3rd class!
This week we had great fun learning about what animals do at this time of the year when the weather gets cooler.
For our first activity we had to pretend that a bottle of warm water was a hedgehog. We worked in teams using natural materials to insulate our hedgehogs as best as we could. We then placed our 'hedgehogs' in a sheltered place for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes we all collected our hedgehogs and we tested the temperature of the water to see which group had insulated their 'hedgehogs' the best.
For our second activity we made some insect homes to help the insects hibernate for the winter. We gathered sticks and tied them together. Then we placed the sticks in sheltered locations around the garden. We will collect our insect homes after the winter and investigate who is living in our insect homes.
Next week in class we will be using our school ipads to continue our mini projects. We will investigate what our chosen animal does to survive the winter.
