Active School Week 2023
Last week was Active week in St Georges. It was great fun. Every Morning before class we got to dance in the yard. One of Denis’s favourites was the cha cha slide on Thursday. Even some of the teachers danced too:). Everyday we did active breaks, chair yoga was something different to try. A teacher came in to teach us some basketball games and tricks, it was was great fun.
On Try it Tuesday we played Futsal in the 1st to 4th yard. It was like football but smaller it was great for our balance. It was nice to try new things.
On Wednesday we did Walkway maps, we had to search for letters that were located in the junior infant and senior yard and also in the secret garden. We had been given a piece of paper with numbers and boxes on them and a pencil. We had to search for the letters on small cards in the yards and write them on our paper. We had to make up words using the first and last letter of the letters we found and write a definition. Olamide says it was great fun and gave it 9/10.
On Thursday great fun was had at the penalty shoot out against Mr O Malley. Classes from 3rd to 6th took part. All the classes lined up around the football pitch in the secret Garden. Mr O'Malley was in the goal. The active team helped line up the balls for each class to shoot. Mr O'Malley was the best and saved so many goals and even saved some on his knees. He looked tired at the end after saving around 230 goals and only 8 students scored. Each class cheered on their classmates. We all really enjoyed ourselves.
Friday was our last day in active week and we had a great time in Dance Off against Ms Storeys 1st Class. Ms Needham was keeping us going on the microphone and the active team were taking photos. Ms Storey's class did Waka Waka and we joined in, their class had been practising and had great moves. It was then our turn and we danced to I'm still standing and we followed the moves on the big screen, we finally danced to Eye of the Tiger. We were all wrecked at the end but we had a fantastic time!!!
It was a great Active week thanks to Ms Needham and the Active Team
