Partnerships

ASF schools work in partnership with others to promote a physically active school community.

Partnerships within and outside the school are an important aspect of the Active School Flag. When a school participates in the Active School Flag Programme it is vital to interact and engage with other organisations and clubs.

We are very lucky in St George's NS to have fantastic links with local sporting clubs.

We use our Active School noticeboards to display the great work done in our school.

The whole school, pupils and teachers, signed a commitment to be an Active School, which we proudly display on our noticeboards.

Active Slogan Competition

At the start of our renewal process, we held a competition throughout the school to find out new Active Flag slogan.

We had so many wonderful entries, it was hard to pick a winner.

All the entries were shared with classes and a vote was conducted to decide the winning entry.

Ms Kearn's 6th Class pupils came up with our winning slogan, which we think you'll agree is quite catchy!

Active School Committee

Our Active School Committee is made up of pupils from 5th and 6th Class.

The Active Committee proved to be popular and so pupils wrote applications to be considered.

The Active School Committee works hard to promote physical activity in our school.

We hold meetings often to discuss upcoming Active School events.

Our Active School Committee is involved in:

  • Helping to plan Active School events
  • Sharing Active School announcements on the intercom
  • Speaking to classes about our ASF events and bringing ideas to committee meetings
  • Organising and judging ASF competitions, such as our ASF Dance-Off and our ASF slogan competition
  • Helping to organise and monitor our PE equipment storage
  • Encouraging everyone to become more active! :)

St George's NS has a long running partnership with O'Dwyers GAA club in Balbriggan. We have had fantastic coaches work with our school over the years.

Anthony, Leah and Gary have been working with us this year and our pupils look forward to their training sessions because they makes them so much fun!

O'Dwyer's GAA Club even brought Sam Maguire to visit us in 2023! We love GAA in St George's and have some great talent - maybe we have some future All-Ireland winners in our midst!

We surveyed pupils and parents as part of our Active School Flag renewal process.

We received very positive feedback and comments about our Active School initiative, from both pupils and parents.

Some areas we are working to improve on:

  • PE Homework - Every class has assigned two PE Homework Monitors to remind pupils and teachers to check up on PE homework each week. We've also added a new Active Homework section to our website so that pupils and parents can easily access fun ideas for PE homework.
  • More feedback to parents - We have introduced a Fair Play Certificate that is awarded to two pupils per class each week in PE.
  • New equipment - Pupils asked and we delivered! New goal posts have been bought for the 5th/6th class yard. We have also purchased new equipment for the 1st/2nd class yard.
  • More activities on yard - The playground leaders programme has been extended into the 1st/2nd class yard.
  • Parental involvement - We are working to increase parental involvement in our Active School programme.

eTwinning

eTwinning is a collaborative platform that enables 2 or more schools from the European Union and / or member countries to jointly develop and run a project on an issue agreed by the partners via the internet.

St Georges is excited to be part of a project called Olympic Games and Sports Values.

Mrs Kearns 6th class are collaborating with more than 10 schools across Europe, sharing ideas, playing games and developing and understanding of Olympic Games and Sports Values.

We hope you enjoy looking at some of our pictures.
